If you hand-quilt, it’s well worth having your quilt machine-basted. No fighting all those layers & pins or crawling on the floor! I will baste your quilt using white cotton thread at 2” - 3” intervals (or per your specifications). Cost is .005¢ per square inch. Example: a 60” x 80” quilt would cost $24.
These designs can be freehand or from one of many available commercial patterns. The same stitching pattern is repeated over the entire quilt. It is ideal for quilts with very scrappy patterns, lots of colors or overall small piecing. It is also the most economical method. Cost is .01¢ per square inch up to .02¢, depending on size & complexity of design. Example: a 60” x 80” quilt would cost $48, using a large-size design.
This type of quilting uses small motifs placed in pieced blocks, with sashing & border designs. It is most suitable for quilts with areas of solid fabric (to show off the stitching). This type of quilting can vary from traditional to contemporary, depending on the patterns used. Depending on the size & complexity of the quilting, prices start at .02¢ per square inch. Example: a 60” x 80” quilt would cost $96 using larger motifs & minimal stippling.
Some quilters want a one-of-a-kind quilt, with stitching that complements their artwork. For this type of work, I will design special patterns & motifs that will not be repeated. Work may include trapunto, micro-stippling or freehand embroidery. Cost is dependent on amount & complexity of design.
Most of my customers prefer to simply pay me for the batting I use. I buy huge rolls at a price per yard that the average consumer cannot match. I only charge you for the actual amount used. Most of my customers like the Hobbs 80/20 cotton-poly blend, but some prefer the Warm & Natural 50/50 blend. And some will only use 100% cotton. I carry several types of batting & can obtain any specialty type you prefer. If you prefer to furnish your own batting, be sure it is big enough - many times the measurement shown on the package is not accurate.
I can provide customers with a quality white or off-white muslin backing, if desired. I will charge you for the amount used, plus seaming if necessary.
If you want me to do your binding, you will need to provide one yard of 44” - 45” fabric with your order. I do not do hand binding. I will machine-bind one side for you to hand sew the other 20¢ per linear foot), or I can machine sew both sides (40¢ per linear foot).
